Hubert Renard

Hubert Renard is an artist who likes to question the materiality of the artwork and shake up the elements that surround it and make it exist, his “paratext”. He constructs his own possible career as an artist, by accumulating documentation (published or not) in the form of catalogues, posters, invitation cards, photographs of exhibitions, openings, installations, press articles, conferences, epistolary documents, etc. His archives recount the work of an exemplary artist who appeared in the 1970s and who bears his name. They are shown in the form of documentary exhibitions, or published in exhibition catalogues or monographs, and paradoxically establish the reality of this work. Hubert Renard is interested in the narratives that make art, which he puts into practice in devices that take up the codes of exhibition or publishing. He has just published a novel, Sans titre (Untitled), published by art&fiction, which describes the making of art, far from the structural analyses that have already been made, through the naivety of the imaginary voice of a 21st century masterpiece.
