The artist acting under the pseudonym Im-another Lazyartist who writes a journal in which she explains why she does not produce works of art. The reasons given are different each time and are composed as a wealth of possibilities after the work.
Some reasons
I won’t create any works of art today because I am spending all of my time explaining why I will not be creating any works of art today.
I won’t create any works of art today as they are too many yearning to be blinded by beauty, emotion, sublime, universal. The only undoubtable beauty, the only universal sublime are those of the overwhelming manifestations of power in every country and every era, stunning us with volutes, colonnades, pyramids and emphasis. I won’t feed these gods nor will I build new icons.
I won’t create any works of art today because, as I already said, there are too many objects and images polluting our world and generally, the “creating something new” principle is -wrongly- attributed to the male gender and therefore, overvalued at the expense of the “taking care of what exists” principle, generally attributed to the female gender therefore underestimated: I admire the Maintenance Art Manifesto and the famous performance of Mierle Laderman Ukeles but she has already cleaned the Wadsworth Atheneum stairs so it would be pointless to re-do it myself. After all, yes: the stairs would be clean again.
I won’t create any works of art today because I have the right not to. I exercise my freedom as an artist.
I won’t create any works of art today because it would have to be titled in English to exist in the contemporary art mercantilist world and my level in English is so-so as it’s not my mother’s tongue. (Nor her teeths or lips.)
I won’t create any work of art today as everything has already been done, no creation can really be “new”, it is all about recycling in these postmodern and post-industrial times. (What a good excuse!)
I won’t create any works of art today because there are already too many objects and too many images: the planet is crowded with objects and images and the issue of our days is not to create new objects and new images but to choose the right objects and to be able to read in the images clearly.
